From Bakhita's Diary
I stayed on in the Catechumenate for another four years, during which, more and more, I heard a gentle voice from the bottom of my heart, urging me to consecrate myself to God. Finally I spoke to my Confessor who suggested I opened my heart to the Superior of the House, Sr. Luigia Bottesella. She contacted the Mother House in Verona and spoke to its Superior, Sr. Anna Previtali.
That good Sister not only granted my request, but added that she herself wanted the pleasure of clothing me in the Holy Habit, and when the time came, of receiving my vows.
On 7 December 1893, I joined the Novitiate in the Institute of the Catechumenate in Venice where I had been instructed. After one and a half years I was called to Verona to receive the Holy Habit.
